The difficulty of the location and the dimension of each panel required all the glass element to be lifted by crane over adjacent gardens and into position. Working very closely with the architects we provided a unique structure with a combination of integrated stainless steel structure hidden by the stepped glass panels. The door in itself required individual engineering as a side hinged door with overall dimensions of 2350 mm high by 2100 mm width, weighing in excess of 290 Kg was achieved with ease of movement an bespoke locking system. Black backed glass panels were used to provide hidden identity to the blockwork side walls and a canopy integrated to the roof panel provides shelter at all times.
At the original visit to site the clients requirements were for an existing steel frame to be brick columns with glass between the column to the main structure, following extensive design meetings we finally provided a glazed frameless system which enveloped the steel structure with large stepped edges blackened to hide the steel when viewed externally but provide clear uninterrupted glass surface, internally we provided insulation to the steel columns and over clad with stainless steel pressings. The difficulties of this project was with lifting the large 750 Kg central glass panel and the roof panels, due to the location of the house, a crane was not suitable and local authority acceptance was not permitted. To overcome this lifting, we provided a tubular scaffold with electric hoisting facilities and carefully lifted each panel at a time into position. Integrating at all times with the client and the on site builder, the finished project included the three storey glazed main entrance and three frameless roof lights located to the rear of the property.
Our clients are a local housing association and required a new contemporary entrance to their offices, the existing structure was to remain the same but the glass was required to generate from the timber clad wall and granite set floor surfaces, therefore integrating a structural frameless system with the requirements for commercial properties with an electric operated and card pass system was designed to the clients satisfaction. The structure resulted in the bonding of toughened laminated panels bonded together and providing sheltered entrance to the head offices.
